Birgit Rakel, MD
Birgit Rakel, M.D. is the Director of the Integrative Women’s Health Program and Director of the Integrative Medicine Fellowship Program at the Marcus Institute of Integrative Health-Jefferson Health and an Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University. She is also the Director of Rachel Naomi Remen’s, “The Healer’s Art Course” at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. She has completed her professional training in Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction under the direction of Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD and incorporates mindfulness principles into her patient care.
Dr. Rakel received her MD from the University of Berlin, Germany, then did her internship in Obstetrics and Gynecology. After completing a General Practice residency in England, she worked as a family physician in London, specializing in Women’s health. She completed a fellowship at the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital in London. She did further residency training in Family Practice at Underwood Memorial Hospital, then completed a Fellowship in Integrative Medicine, University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. She is board-certified in Family and Community Medicine and Integrative Medicine.
She is Co-Editor of the book, “Complementary and Alternative Medicine for Older Adults- a Guide to Holistic Approaches to Healthy Aging.”
