in Integrative Health Care & Education
The Marcus Institute of Integrative Health was established in 2017 by Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health to expand the research, education, and clinical care profile of Jefferson’s integrative medicine program, and to set the international standard of excellence in evidence-based, patient-centered integrative care.
At two convenient locations, our experienced physicians offer compassionate, individualized care to patients in the Philadelphia region and beyond. Using an innovative blend of traditional medicine, leading-edge technology, and proven complementary therapies, we treat and prevent a range of chronic health issues and empower patients to proactively manage their health and wellness for life.
Major philanthropic support has been fundamental to the growth and success of the Marcus Institute of Integrative Health. We are profoundly grateful to the many who have contributed to our mission. We would like to especially acknowledge the following important donors for their critical roles in our evolution:
• The Marcus Foundation, whose generosity has been substantial, catapulting Integrative Medicine at Jefferson to a level beyond any other academic health institution. Their funding has supported landmark studies, the creation of the state-of-the-art Villanova Center, the PET-MRI imaging facility, the Marcus Institute of Integrative Health, and most recently, the nation’s first department of Integrative Medicine and Nutritional Sciences at a traditional medical school.
• Myrna and Ira Brind, whose generosity, vision, and support helped establish Integrative Medicine at Jefferson, including our highly successful Mindfulness Programs.
• Ellen and Ron Caplan, whose generosity created the first endowed professorship in Integrative Medicine at Jefferson, funded at the Chair level, with Dr. Daniel A. Monti as the inaugural “Ellen and Ron Caplan Professor and Chair” of Integrative Medicine and Nutritional Sciences.
By establishing a Department of Integrative Medicine and Nutritional Sciences, the visionary leaders at Thomas Jefferson University have placed the importance of teaching integrative medicine on the same level as surgery, internal medicine, and other conventional medical fields. This first-of-its-kind academic department will formally prepare the next generation of doctors and healthcare professionals to meet the growing demand for evidence-based, holistic care.
