Elevating Integrative Medicine

The visionary leaders at Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) established a Department of Integrative Medicine and Nutritional Sciences, elevating the field of Integrative Medicine as an equal peer to the other clinical departments in the medical school at Jefferson — an achievement that exists no place else in the country.

Housed in Jefferson’s Sidney Kimmel Medical College, the department formalizes the teaching of integrative medicine alongside other medical departments. Academic programming includes CME / CE conferences and several certificate programs. In addition, the department will award a unique one-year fellowship in Integrative and Nutritional Medicine for physicians who have completed an ACGME-approved residency program.

Integrative Nutrition Advanced Practice Certificate

The Integrative Nutrition Advanced Practice Certificate will provide the knowledge for healthcare professionals to develop a patient-centered care plan using biometric data and evidence based nutritional lifestyle medicine approaches to improve patient outcomes.

Mind-Body Medicine Advanced Practice Certificate

The Mind-Body Medicine Advanced Practice Certificate will bring a new dynamic to professional healthcare education, focusing on mind-body strategies to reduce stress and improve health-related quailty of life.

Integrative Health Education Advanced Practice Certificate

This certificate focuses on the theories, evidence for, and practice of integrative health education approaches and prepares students to meet patients' growing demand of complementary practices.

Integrative Medicine Fellowship (Full Time)

Thomas Jefferson University’s Department of Integrative Medicine and  The Marcus Institute of Integrative Health offers a unique one year,  full-time fellowship in Integrative Medicine. This is an outstanding opportunity for interested graduates of an ACGME-accredited residency program. Applicants must be board certified in their area of specialty, or plan to board certify during their year of fellowship training. This Fellowship has been approved by the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS) to meet all the requirements of the American Board of Integrative Medicine (ABOIM). Completion of the fellowship program provides fellows with eligibility to take the ABOIM board examination and to apply for board certification.

Our curriculum based on core knowledge content of Integrative Medicine using ABOIM exam content areas as a foundation. The curriculum is diverse, with clinical, didactic and research components. Our faculty are trained in both conventional and integrative practices. The fellowship comprises training in nutrition, vitamin, herbal and hormonal treatments at our Villanova and Center City Sites. The Program includes 2 certificate courses; one in Nutrition, and an intensive Mind-Body Medicine course, as well as a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program. Research is designed for your area of interest in the field, and we have many opportunities in innovative research in Integrative Health and Medicine.
