Caring for the Brain Health of Veterans
The Marcus Institute of Integrative Health – Jefferson Health is a partner of the Gary Sinise Foundation Avalon Network, a leader in the field of posttraumatic growth, in offering the Veterans’ Brain Health program. The primary focus of this program is to care for former military personnel who have suffered a service-related traumatic brain injury (TBI), such as a concussive injury and related conditions. The program will target unresolved symptoms, such as cognitive problems, functional limitations, post-traumatic stress, and other psychological health issues. It is our mission to use our innovative and proven approaches to aid in the healing, recovery, and preventive treatment of our veterans.
The Marcus Institute’s comprehensive, interdisciplinary care model for brain recovery is designed to meet the specific needs of veterans. Our experienced staff works closely with patients and their families to develop customized patient treatment plans based on the Jefferson integrative model of whole-person care. We start with advanced diagnostic procedures and intensive assessments, and then formulate a 3-week onsite treatment program that will include a customized blend of traditional and complementary therapies, such as targeted nutrition, sleep therapy, and neurofeedback. The entire assessment and treatment process, including accommodation near the Marcus Institute of Integrative Health in Villanova, Pennsylvania, is provided at no cost for the selected patients and one accompanying family member.
In addition to clinical care, the initiative will support targeted research in conditions that impact service members, such as TBI, cardiovascular health, and psychological health. Through Thomas Jefferson University, service members can access educational and career development opportunities tailored to their needs and goals. And finally, our focus on community engagement connects patients with programs that support and promote a strong community in Philadelphia.
We hope to begin accepting patients this spring. In the meantime please connect with our partners at the Gary Sinise Foundation Avalon Network through the link below, and they will assist you.
